New attitude

Proverbs 10:21- “The lips of the righteous nourish many.”

It’s hard to keep an encouraging spirit when you’re overwhelmed by problems with your children. It reminds me of a story of a young boy, Jack, who was acting out at home. Although his dad was not really wanting to spend time with him, he decided to hang out with Jack and play a game of darts. As they played Jack said to his father, “Hey dad let’s play darts. I’ll throw and you say “Wonderful!” This went on and on.

To follow Christ is “to be made new in the attitude of your minds” (Eph. 4:23) so that every action is “helpful for building others up” (v.29). This is true with our children too. Sometimes a problem with misbehaving or rebellion can be helped by taking time to have fun together and to speak love or encouraging words. Kids need to hear that they are respected and appreciated – and so do moms and dads.

*Something to think about –

Are you showing a loving, appreciative attitude toward your kids?

What can you do this week to express this attitude to your kids?
